❓ Frequently Asked Questions

β–Ό
How does the app blocking work?
When you try to open a blocked app, Detoks detects this and shows a block screen. You'll need to enter a 6-digit unlock code from your Guardian to access the app temporarily.
What is a Settings Code?
After initial setup, Users need a "Settings Code" from their Guardian to modify their blocked apps list. This prevents Users from simply removing apps from the block list without accountability.
How long do unlock codes last?
Guardians can choose the duration when generating a code: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, or 4 hours. After this time, the app is automatically blocked again.
Can I block system apps?
Detoks only shows user-installed apps, not system apps. This is intentional to prevent accidentally blocking essential phone functions.
What happens if I uninstall a blocked app?
The app is automatically removed from your blocked apps list. If you reinstall it later, you'll need to add it back to the block list.
Does my Guardian see which apps I use?
No. Your Guardian only sees which apps you've chosen to block and whether your protection is enabled. They cannot see your usage or activity.
What if my Guardian isn't available?
You'll need to wait until your Guardian can generate a code. This is the core accountability feature - having someone else hold the keys to your distracting apps.
Can I have multiple Guardians?
Currently, free users can link with 1 Guardian. Premium users can link with up to 6 Guardians for more flexibility.
⚠️ Important

If you disable protection or revoke permissions for Detoks, your Guardian will be notified. This ensures accountability even if you try to bypass the protection.

πŸ‘€ Account & Security

β–Ό
How do I reset my password?
On the login screen, click "Forgot password?" and enter your email address. You'll receive a password reset link in your inbox. Click the link to set a new password. If you don't see the email, check your spam folder.
How do I delete my account?
To delete your account and all associated data, please email us at support@detoks.io with the subject "Account Deletion Request" from the email address associated with your account. We will process your request within 30 days and confirm deletion by email. All your data including blocked apps, guardian links, and unlock history will be permanently deleted.
Can I use the same account on multiple phones?
For Users, Detoks works on one phone at a time. If you log into a different phone, you'll need to set up protection again and re-link with your Guardian. This ensures protection can't be bypassed by switching devices.
Can I be both a User and a Guardian?
Yes! You can add a second role to your account from the dashboard. However, you cannot link your own User and Guardian roles together - you must link with a different person for proper accountability.

πŸ”‹ Battery Optimization

β–Ό

For Detoks to work reliably in the background, you may need to disable battery optimization for the app. Some phones aggressively kill background apps to save battery.

How to disable battery optimization for Detoks
Stock Android:
Settings β†’ Apps β†’ Detoks β†’ Battery β†’ Unrestricted

Samsung:
Settings β†’ Apps β†’ Detoks β†’ Battery β†’ Allow background activity

Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO:
Settings β†’ Apps β†’ Manage apps β†’ Detoks β†’ Battery saver β†’ No restrictions
Also: Security app β†’ Autostart β†’ Enable for Detoks

OnePlus:
Settings β†’ Battery β†’ Battery optimization β†’ All apps β†’ Detoks β†’ Don't optimize

Huawei/Honor:
Settings β†’ Battery β†’ App launch β†’ Detoks β†’ Manage manually β†’ Enable all toggles
πŸ’‘ Tip

If protection keeps turning off after locking your phone, battery optimization is likely the cause. Follow the steps above for your phone brand.

πŸ”§ Troubleshooting

β–Ό
Apps aren't being blocked
Make sure you've enabled Protection in the dashboard and granted all required permissions (Usage Access, Display Over Apps). Check that battery optimization is disabled for Detoks.
Unlock code says "Invalid"
Make sure you're entering the correct 6-digit code. Codes are app-specific - use the code generated for that particular app.
Unlock code says "Already used"
Each code can only be used once. Ask your Guardian to generate a new code.
Link code isn't working
Link codes expire after 10 minutes. Make sure the code hasn't expired and hasn't been used already. Ask your Guardian to generate a fresh code.
Protection keeps turning off
This is usually caused by aggressive battery optimization. See the Battery Optimization section above for instructions specific to your phone brand.
